Do you know a tendon from a ligament? Pada bandha from hasta bandha? What is fascia anyway?

A knowledge of anatomy will not only improve your yoga but can also positively affect how you use your body off the mat. In this engaging and fun (yes, learning anatomy can be fun!) weekend, we will explore anatomical concepts from basic scientific language to functional biomechanics and everything in between - and the knowledge is always tied back to yoga.

The day will start with a morning asana practice led by Matt wherein we will explore some of the anatomy principles we will be exploring that day. Then, the day will be a mix of engaging lecture, group work and applying anatomy to asana.

We will consider such questions as: is it okay to place the foot on the knee in tree pose? What is meant by ‘neutral pelvis’ and how is this useful in asana practice? Should we avoid forward folds immediately after backbends? How do we work with injured students, including ourselves?

By the end of this course, you will feel more confident in your knowledge of the body and, if you’re a teacher, you will have the language to give clearer anatomical and alignment cues. This course is ideal for any yoga teacher or serious yoga practitioner.

Non-teachers have attended this immersion before and commented on how useful it is even for a non-teacher. If you have a body, you will benefit from this course!

A detailed 100-page manual is included. For teachers, this course counts toward your annual CPD requirements.
