Acro Yoga is a movement practice that combines the essence of yoga, the playfulness of acrobatics and the healing power of human connection in a safe and playful way. In this two-hour workshop, Rita and Matt will take you through the fundamentals of Acro Yoga, introducing the elements and poses of the practice through games, partner drills, and accessible progressions. You will work in partners/small groups to practice partner warm-ups and learn about the skills and techniques of balancing each other in a smart way. This practice is based on listening, trust and respect, and more importantly about exploring and expanding your physical and psychological limits, overcoming fears when stepping out of your comfort zone and building trust and connection with other people regardless of size, strength or flexibility. Though you might have your trepidations at first, you will find that you can do much more than you think possible. WHAT TO EXPECT Learn to weight-share and weight-bear in a safe environment Embrace joy and playfulness in movement Expand your comfort zone by trying something new Develop your openness to connecting with others MORE DETAILS The workshop is suitable to a variety of levels but a basic knowledge of yoga is useful. You do not need to bring a partner. You will be matched up on the day. Acro Yoga can be successful and fun regardless of shape, size and age, all you need is an open mind and the willingness to explore something new. You do not need to be a size zero to be lifted. With the right technique, a smaller person can lift someone bigger than them. ABOUT RITA AND MATT: Rita Cox (ritacoxyoga.com) is a well rounded yoga teacher (Power Yoga, Rocket, Mandala, Yin) and a certified Level 1 Acro Yoga teacher who is passionate about exploring different movement types (including handstands and Crossfit!). She loves bringing the love of Acro to others, creating an “adult playground” to explore and play freely. Matthew Huy is a senior yoga teacher and co-author of The Physiology of Yoga. With a master’s degree in exercise science, he brings a deep knowledge of how the body works, along with a love of creative movement. THE WORKSHOP IS LIMITED TO 20 PEOPLE AND LIKELY TO SELL OUT SO EARLY BOOKING IS RECOMMENDED.
